Just as mine: the initial BIOS release is the oldest, so while running on F.11 , F. 12 brings Win8 support...

The other newer ones bring additional notebooks support in your case, just seen the change-logs.

If nothing works, have you thought about a defective wireless adapter? It's a new laptop right? Your friend may still have time to have it replaced.

Any proof for a match between the two laptops?

The m6 and the dv6 are NOT the same and have different hardware and CPU's.

The newest is the m6 and has Win8 and quad core AMD CPU + UEFI BIOS (version F.32) while the dv6 is Vista-generation with older hardware and legacy BIOS (F. 18).

I don't recommend you mix hardware and definitely not the BIOSes.

Well that kind of changes things doesn't it? Just call it intuition.

I only made a suggestion here so Dave would take a look at it, no need to jump down my throat here, I know what I'm doing.

With both connections still dropping I'd say there is still something installed on the system that is causing this, but without the ipconfig/all I can only guess.

Might help if you can post the output from DDS, it will show us what is really installed on this system.

    Still haven't made any progress.
    Ran Defender Offline - nothing.
Tried running it with the firewall off, same issues.
    Re-set winsock.

Will run DDS and post the results.

Will open it up and inspect the WIFI card.

    Thanks for the help everyone.

    Edit
Attached the two files from DDS.

    DDS.txt

    Attach.txt

Just found he had a BSOD, I will run the debugger and see what it comes up with.

I was under the impression that this system was completely refreshed or reset, apparently that wasn't the case as there is lots of stuff installed on this system, and Bonjour is still there as well.

You really need to take this system back to square one, either refresh or reset the system, check for connectivity, it will most likely be fine, install one program at a time and check after each one.

It might also be worth while to start this system up in safe mode with Networking, this will confirm if the problem is from an installed program which is very likely the case, there is also a debugger mode that might help.
Safe Mode - Start Windows 8 in

You might also try running AdwCleaner.

    Ran AdwCleaner, nothing found.

In Safe Mode with networking everything works fine, no drops.
We have uninstall all the crapware and bonjour, still not working.
Ran SIW2's Win8 PE, no dropping of connection.

    The crash dumps were 9F:
    STOP 0x0000009F: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE
    Will Run Driver Verifier.

Took out the WIFI card and it still dropped connection with the wired LAN.

The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the device USB\VID_138A&PID_0018\3564648017a8.

Appears to be a LAN/WIFI card issue.

    Can anyone verify?

    Edit:
    Re-cap of troubleshooting:

    Updated all drivers

    Updated BIOS to f32

Set power saving to maximize performance, HDD and LAN/WIFI not to sleep

    Uninstalled Bonjour and HP apps

Ran Microsoft Defender Offline, AdwCleaner, both came up clean

Ran WD Lifeguard HDD tests, Quick and Extended, no errors found

Seems to work in Safe mode w/networking

Turned off the Firewall, still dropped the connection

Found crash dumps, all were 9F:
    STOP 0x0000009F: DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE
They indicated pci.sys – probably not the cause

Ran Driver Verifier, caused no Driver Verifier enabled crashes, only 9f crashes, possibly indicates the drivers are ok

System Event Logs show many Warnings and Errors for the LAN/WIFI ‘device attached to the system is not functioning’
    Also Plug and Play errors

Ruled out router/WIFI as a cause, other laptops including HP’s are running without any issues

If we roll some dice I also put the money on that LAN card since plenty of people have issues with it and I got one too.

Many applied this, but I guess you've already tried it and doesn't fix all cases:
Plus the other dozen of power options where we don't know what to change.

pci.sys is a part of Windows isn't it? then we cannot replace it so we have to do something about those lan files, hopefully they have good Win8 support but this thing might have happened in 7 as well.

The lan driver you've updated: is it from HP?
8.3... now dating back from almost a year ago.

If you didn't found a newer one, look here to what follows.

On the Realtek site, they provide PCIe LAN drivers as well:
    Realtek

The Win8 one there, mentions a version... but doesn't match the date it's just from March this year.
So I downloaded it to see:
    8.12.... definitely recommended to try.

But first, wipe the older files: remove driver + software (Device Manager).

This is just an idea, I don't know if it will fix it but it's worth to try since I'm not really the right person to say much about the pci.sys error.

If you've already applied this driver, I'm out of ideas for now.

    Hopachi, Thanks for the input.
    Already tried the power settings.
The pci.sys is a Microsoft driver.
Haven't tried the driver from Realtek, but will now.

    Thanks

If this is all working in safe mode with networking then it's not a LAN card or wireless NIC problem. And really, if this was a driver problem then it would not be working in safe mode, is this only obvious to me?

The problem is from something that was installed on the system, something that isn't running at start up in safe mode.

This system really needs to be reset. A clean install would be even better as this would remove the bloatware.
