HP Envy dv6 dropping the LAN and WIFI connection

  1. #11

You might try working with the Advanced network adaptor settings , there are many options which relate to network stablity. It might also help to disable any VPN's like Hamachi or extra unused connections.

Intel has a link that explains the Advanced networking options and what they are used for, one of those settings might help.

The model listed at the HP site was different than the one that was posted. I get HP Envy m6-1148ca, rather than dv6-1148ca
There is a bios update from last month but the drivers look the same.

    I do see the dv6:

    Here you go:
Software & Driver Downloads HP Pavilion dv6-1148ca Entertainment Notebook PC | HP® Support

It has the same (mysterious) network adapters as my dv7... see earlier posts.

But be aware of the BIOSes and hope you run the latest:

However, none of the releases add network fixes which means the issue might be related to a setting, as we described earlier.

Yes the drivers all look about the same although the m6 version shows that it has Windows 8 64 bit drivers and a recent bios update.

I think the advanced settings for the adaptor may have the desired effect.

Thanks guys, we have tried most of the suggestions.
Nothing found in BIOS about deep sleep mode or LAN power saving.
    Updated to BIOS vF32.
    Uninstalled Bonjour.
Changed settings in Control Panel > Power Options
It seems to be better, but still dropping wired and wireless connections.
Have read more complaints about this issue, seems to be the Ralink wifi card, people with the Intel wifi cards aren't having these problems.

Thanks Chev, will check out the Advanced network adaptor settings.

Any proof for a match between the two laptops?

The m6 and the dv6 are NOT the same and have different hardware and CPU's.

The newest is the m6 and has Win8 and quad core AMD CPU + UEFI BIOS (version F.32) while the dv6 is Vista-generation with older hardware and legacy BIOS (F. 18).

I don't recommend you mix hardware and definitely not the BIOSes.

Sorry about previous post. But the two laptops are different.

My dv7 has LAN power options in the BIOS, it means you have something different here.

May have given the wrong laptop model, it says M6 on the top of the screen and has the AMD A8 CPU, UEFI BIOS.
The support page gave F32 BIOS (installed now), he had F11 previously.

    Alright then!

Chev was right and you got the latest BIOS then. It seems they changed some options compared to older models.
To confirm this as well, my newer envy dv6 with UEFI (F. 24) doesn't have the LAN power options in BIOS anymore.

I also agree to look in the advanced network adapter settings.

    Honestly, not exactly.

I've tried "Green Ethernet" but the adapter was still vanishing. Try that as well for your issue.

There are other settings that could be tried as well, just note the default values somewhere so you can revert back if needed.

"Energy efficient ethernet" can be disabled just for testing if this is not the one, turn it back on.

I'm posting from a desktop where the "Auto Disable Gigabit" is set to disabled by default. I suppose it disables the Gigabit when on battery but this doesn't seem to have another state and much impact but I'm only guessing.

    That's all I got.
Maybe I'll provide you the defaults on my laptop without issues to see if both settings match.

    Cheers!
