Internet Connection Sharing - 'Unidentified Network'

  1. #11

I understand the time you have put in to try and help me, and i am very grateful. It just doesn't make sense that those solutions, which work for other people, do not work for me. Also, I feel the problem is not solely due to ICS as the ethernet network still displays 'Unidentified Network' and nothing seems to fix it.

As I mentioned earlier, Google may have a solution for this but the reliability using a USB for internet might not be so good,...anyway the tutorial in the link may help.

I can't really find a Windows 8 specific tutorial for this but the adjustments in services that I posted earlier may help in this respect. I should also point out that Ad-Hoc network is meant to be shared wireless to wireless ONLY and that wireless connections are only made to be shared wirelessly,...not wireless to wired and not wired to wireless, which is typically very unreliable even if can you get it to work.

On step 8 of the link you gave me, I don't have the option it says to select so it doesn't work. Is there any way I can degrade back to windows 7 for free, because it works with that as I have tested on my friends window 7 laptop.

    Windows 8.1

Its not what you are thinking. Everytime you Restart the Windows 8 PC, you have to first establish internet connection and then click RESTART ICS. Within a few seconds other pcs on the net can access internet.
With windows 7 or earlier versions of PC, ICS DIDN'T HAVE ALL THESE PROBLEMS.

Hey! windows 8 engineers if you are reading this post, i MUST CONGRATULATE, for your worst effort you have made in building windows 8. You have ruined the interface by new kind of ALIEN INTERFACE.

    1. STILL MISS THAT START BUTTON. THE TILES INTERFACE LOOKS SO IRRITATING FOR DESKTOP PC USERS. WHAT WERE YOU HAVE IN MIND???? ONE OPERATING SYSTEM FOR ALL PCS, TABLETS ETC??? DO YOU THINK ITS A LOGICAL THOUGHT? YOU MEAN TO SAY ONE ENGINE THAT FITS IN JET PLANE, MOTOR BOAT AND FERRARI CAR WITH SAME CONTROLS (IE. INTERFACE). EVEN A NAIVE PROGRAMMER WOULDN'T IMAGINE THAT KIND OF STUPIDITY AT ALL.

ALSO, SINCE WINDOWS 95, PPL ARE USED TO OF SEEING SAME INTERFACE, WHATS THE POINT OF THIS NEW ALIEN INTERFACE NOW ????? HAVE YOU EVER HEARD ABOUT "EASE OF USE" AND "USER FRIENDLY". DO YOU FIND IT EASIER TO SCROLL MOUSE OVER TO 100 MILE LONG TILES BEFORE ONE CAN SEE ITS DESIRED APP TILE? WHAT A WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY.

IN SOFTWARE ENGINEERING (ASSUMING YOU HAVE HEARD OF THAT TERM) WE ARE TAUGHT TO HAVE A CONSISTENCY IN THE INTERFACE SO THAT WITH EVERY NEW VERSION OF THE SOFTWARE, WE DON'T HAVE TO SPEND TIME ON TRAINING THE STAFF. ONLY MINOR AND NEW CHANGES ARE TO BE TAUGHT.

WITH YOUR NEW ALIEN INTERFACE, WINDOWS 8 IS TOTALLY A WHOLE NEW WORLD. A WORLD WHERE AT LEAST LOYAL WINDOWS USERS ARE NOT COMFORTABLE AT ALL.

    2. ICS DOESN'T WORK AS IT USED TO BE IN EARLIER WINDOWS VERSIONS.

    3. CHESS GAME IS MISSING WHICH WAS IN WINDOWS 7.

    4. MOST OF THE APPS AND DRIVERS WON'T WORK WITH WINDOWS 8.

    5. WINDOWS 8 HAVE MOST TROUBLE USING MULTIPLE MONITORS. ONCE YOU START THE PC WITH MULTIPLE MONITORS, AS SOON AS WINDOWS 8 LOADS, THE SECOND MONITOR GETS REMOVED FROM THE KNOWN HARDWARE DEVICES LIST. SO TO OVER COME THIS YOU HAVE, TAKE THE MONITOR CABLE OUT OF THE PC AND RE-INSERT IT SO THAT WINDOWS CAN DETECT IT AGAIN. AND ONCE DETECTED IT WOULD WORK SMOOTHLY (WOW!THANKS). YOU CAN EXTEND DESKTOPS TO 2 MONITORS.

THE ABOVE ARE THE MAJOR ISSUES WITH WINDOWS 8 OR WINDOWS 8.1.

I WISH THEY HAD STOPPED CREATING OS, AFTER WINDOWS 7. WINDOWS 7 WAS THE MOST BEAUTIFUL, EXCELLENT OS EVEN MUCH BETTER THAN APPLE GUYS. APPLE MAC OSX ARE NOTHING IF COMPARED TO WINDOWS 7. THE BEST EVER KNOWN OS CREATED ON EARTH IS WINDOWS 7.
