Hi,

I have Windows 8 Pro and XP connected to the same router via Ethernet cable, XP can access files on Windows 8 Pro and place files in folders from Windows 8 and the files will appear in the folder in Windows 8, Windows 8 can see the XP computer but when I try to access it I get an error message saying "Windows can not access \\James ", the name of my XP computer. There can't be much wrong, but I am stuck, I just can't find the answer. Can anyone please help?

Thanks
God bless
James

It may help to use the IP address of the XP machine> \\192.168.x.x

You should also ensure that network discovery and public file sharing are all turned on with password protected sharing turned off in the Advanced sharing settings.

As I recall with XP, it should help to run the network connection set up wizard.

I'm sure you are aware there are tutorials for this online.

Hi there
Actually YOU gave me a great answer to a similar problem so I suggest the OP follows the link to the answer you gave me before in THIS thread.

It's worth a shot I guess Jimbo but the tutorials certainly don't show that as an option, though the lanman server settings also works to gain access into certain types of NAS boxes as well so you never know.

Of course the tutorials also don't cover the Windows 8 to Server 03 access problems so what do they know. :)

Thanks for the help everyone, I am new here and see "Rep me if I helped..." sorry to say I don't know how to do that, but thanks to everyone, I will take the time to read and try your suggestions. I'll get back to you, and if someone explains how to Rep, I'll give it a try.

God bless all

Jim
