Hi guys. Recently installed Windows 8 on 2 computers and having a problem with internet sharing via ethernet. The 2 computers are connected via a CAT5 cable. The primary pc uses a desktop modem, which is connected via usb. I have set up my connection as "Broadband", and shared it via ethernet. However, the secondary pc doesn't receive any connection. There is a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark. Nothing is wrong with the LAN cable as I can access both hard drives on either PC. Please help. I haven't had this problem with Windows 7.

I'll direct you to a post I made awhile back on the subject of ICS not working with Windows 8. :)

You can try reading through this TechNet thread on the subject to see if you can find a solution.

Hi!

Thanks! run->services.msc->internet connection sharing->startup type-auto(delayed) and restarting the service worked! However, I have to do that each time I restart the PC. Is there no permanent solution yet?

Got a solution that works for me! run->services.msc->routing and remote access must be set to automatic! Leave internet connection sharing as automatic as well.

That's good, I'm glad the two solutions from the TechNet paged worked, not so easy to find the one page with those solutions which pertain to Windows 8.

I'll post them both here so that other can find them more easily. :)

And here is a solution:

Set ICS service start mode to auto(delayed)

run->services.msc->internet connection sharing->startup type-auto(delayed)

Restart pc or stop/start service.

This service will be loaded after windows starting in about 5 minutes (on i7 960), its not immediately start.

Second solution to make ICS work on start up....

Go to run->services.msc but then, aside from checking ICS service, CHECK FOR "Routing and Remote Access" if it's not on AUTOMATIC then it needs to be set to Automatic.

Default is "OFF" , not even "Manual".

After i changed it for "Automatic" and pressed start, Internet started working.
