I just got a computer with windows 8 installed and the first time the system updated I can no longer use my wi-fi connection. When I hit my wi-fi icon to activate my internet it says it doesn't recognize any device.. I am very limited in my computer skills so any help would be great, called tech support that was a disaster. Thanks in advance..

I'm not sure why the update would do this however, you can go back to a point in time before the updates were installed to restore your machine to a working condition.

You could also try uninstalling the previous Windows updates and restart your system, if that fixes the problem then right click the problem updates and choose to hide them.

Make sure your WiFi on the laptop is turned on. It is easy to accidently touch the little switch on the top of the keyboard and disable it.

We did the restore twice while on the phone with microsoft tech support and neither time did it help, I have had the computer since the 27th and everything worked until the 31st when it did its update, now it does not recognize my wireless modem at all.

Have you tried to reset your modem/router using the reset button? If you use the reset button you will need to set up your Routers wireless settings again etc.

If you installed any type of third party anti virus software or firewalls it may help to uninstall those using the special uninstall tool.

Sometimes just unplugging the modem for awhile works, other times you need to unplug it then hit the start button. I'm not sure the exact procedure for your particular modem/router would be.

If that doesn't work you might try refreshing Windows 8 or resetting Windows 8 but you must back up everything first.
