Internet shows connected but can't do anything online

Upgraded my laptop from windows vista to windows 8
everything worked fine on vista it Was just slow, 8 is much quicker but having an annoying issue

Internet worked fine for about a week until I started watching shows online and using a lot more data then suddenly I could no no longer visit sites or use web based programs even though 8 says its still connected to the internet

If I restarted my computer it would work for maybe an hour then would happen again it seemed like if I deleted my cookies it would work for a longer period of time. If i reset the router or modem it would work for a bit as well. it has gotten so bad it stops working after about 30 seconds of usage now but after clicking my wifi connection and clicking reset estimated usage I was able to get about 20 minutes

If I plug into Ethernet into it instead of wifi it works for a while then has same issue I've also tried it on 4 seperate networks all were using the same model router ive since upgraded to a better router issue stays the same

Ipconfig sees the gateway and has an ipaddress but if I try to ping out or even to ping the router itself it times out

Reinstalling windows 8 started the issue over could use the Internet heavy at first then progressively less as time went by

No antivirus software, disabled firewall, disabled protective mode, all updates are done, did the netsh winsock reset

Ive searched the threads and tried a lot of things for people having similar issues but nothing has resolved my problem for long

    Please help and thanks

This problem is usually caused by winsock or the TCP/IP stack being corrupted.

Run the following two commands "just the part in bold" one at a time, use an elevated command prompt, reboot your machine after running the commands.

If you are still having problems after that please post a screen shot of the ipconfig/all form this machine.

    Code:
netsh winsock reset catalog (reset winsock entries)
    Code:
netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (reset TCP/IP stack)

ive tried that in the past when I saw it in several forums and the issue continued but I tried it again just now and the internet worked for appx 1-2 minutes before shutting down again and a reboot was required to be able to post this Click image for larger version

Try using the ipconfig/all command next time because I need to see what else is there.

Coming from Vista, I'm wondering if you have found any drivers that are made to work with Windows 8. Do you have any USB type wireless NIC's you could try?

From the HP site, there isn't even Windows 7 drivers for your laptop although it may help to run a scan at the HP site to see if it can find any drivers.

From this you should be online, valid IP etc.

Do you have any type of third party anti virus software installed on this machine?

None whatsoever actually since the reinstall I've only installed 3 programs total

Update on the hard wired connection while it does stop working with usage after 15-20 minutes it will start working again on its own wifi still does not I do have a USB wifi card I can try to install a little later tonight

Ive installed a USB wifi n card and used it for an hour or so it worked fine for a while then slowed to a crawl it did stay working which is better than the internal card though but then again that's only an hour of usage compared to weeks

What i like to do when ever i have connection issues is to use the ping command to see if i can even get out of my local network but since you say that you can use an external wifi adapter to connect then it could be hardware based. I would still do the ping command while using the internal card to see if you get anything.

i use the ping command quite often as a troubleshooting tool as well. while on hardwired connection I can ping out, while on the external wifi card I can ping out, but on the internal wifi card I can only ping out for a while once the laptop uses so much data then I cant ping the internet I cant even ping the router but I can ping its own ip address so the card is working but it wont connect out to even the router. I have assumptions it has something to do with the data metering capabilities of windows 8 not sure how that is or why but it happens quicker if I use a lot of data such as streaming videos or downloading large files etc if I delete my cookies between episodes of online streaming shows I can go without any trouble for a long time (as long as they are short episodes not large in size) and a few times when it has gotten really bad I did a reset on the data meter you get by clicking the network icon in the taskbar then clicking the network you are connected to and I was able to use the internet longer before the issue started again. I can tell the internet slows by watching the buffer on streaming videos or by the download counters ive had other people complain to me about the same issue on windows 8 but I havnt been able to tell them anything other than "yeah im having the same issue sorry"

what would be interesting to see is if some other wifi device had the same issue. If say an Xbox or a phone didn't have an issue, say you can watch as many as you want on the other device then you know it lies in your system, if it loses connection then it lays within the router
