    PC Settings Not Showing Wireless

    Hi guys,

I just got a network usb adapter for my new Windows 8 built PC. In the devices area of the control panel it shows the network adapter as installed, and working. However, when I got to PC Settings there are no wireless settings shown, and unlike my other computers around the house I can't find my network or any other networks which is very stranger since I live in an apartment and I'm surrounded by like 20 different networks. Any ideas?

    Thanks.

I think you are looking for how to manage wireless networks.

It's in a different place with Windows 8. It sounds like you just need to type in the SSID, security password, etc.

If the drivers are installed correctly you should be able to see other networks in your area.

This link shows you were to look. How to Manage Wireless Network Connections & Profiles in Windows 8 | 7 Tutorials

Have you checked in Device Manager under Network Adaptors to see if it shows up there with the driver installed?

Device Manager shows the device installed, and the drivers all there. It says the device is working. However, the device cannot detect any networks and like I said earlier Windows 8 show no Network settings under PC settings (Which is why that page doesn't help me unfortunately). They are settings visible under the control panel but under Windows 8 PC settings nope.

I cannot find my network but even if I type in the SSID and password it says there is a connection error, and since I live in an apartment building where I know there is at least around 20 other networks, there should be no reason why my computer wouldn't detect any networks.

If this helps in the troubleshooting at all my network adapter is a D-Link Wireless N300 DWA 130

Thanks for the suggestions so far.

The D-Link DWA-130 is not really made to work with Windows 8 so it's unlikely you will see any networks unless you have an updated driver version. I can find Windows 7 drivers that may work or Windows update may have some newer drivers for you although you may require a wired connection in order to get to Windows updates.

Thanks for the assistance. I'll try updating the drivers than. I was told in store that I could use this network adapter no problem . Alas, it seems I was led astray. If not I'll have to get a new adapter.
