    Windows 8 Wireless problems HELP

Right, so I have this wireless adapter - Edimax EW-7811UN Wireless 802.11b/g/n 150Mbps Nano USB Adaptor: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

On Windows 7 I plug it in, install the EDIMAX driver and have no problems.

On Windows 8 I plug it in and it works WITHOUT the need for the EDIMAX driver, I just confirm the network key etc and it runs. HOWEVER every 15 minutes or so my connection speed will come come crashing to a halt as if the adapter is struggling to get signal. Pages refuse to load, not even my local Belkin router settings page (192.168.2.1). So I installed the EDIMAX drivers and restarted, again the same thing is happening, no difference.

This is driving me crazy, I dual boot W7 and as soon as I switch to work on W7 I have no problems. It's not my connection or anything like that as W7 works fine for hours at a time (like it used to when I only had W7 installed)

Can anyone please help me sort this out?? is it a know W8 problem?? Can I disable W8 from controlling my wireless and let the EDIMAX driver take over?

    HELP

Windows 8 is using the generic driver that the OS has. You still need to install the actual driver and software associated with the usb adapter.

As you can see there is only a beta driver for 8. You can try it and see how that works. Or use the windows 7 driver and install under compatibility mode.

He said he installed the Edimax drivers , same problem.

You shouldnt need to disable the windows driver the edimax should take over.

What driver is listed in device manager for your device? Driver provider should be listed as Edimax if it says microsoft the install was bad. Is there any software bundled with the driver ie some kind of connection manager.

when you say every 15 minutes or so have you timed it? is it happening at simlar intervals? Is it a laptop? is it running on battery? does it still happen if you set your power profile to performance.

Im having issues with win 8 if i constant ping an ip address i loose packets every 5 minutes on the dot and i cant find the cause...

Only on the windows 7 OS, not on the windows 8 OS, on the 8 OS he said it just picked it up and it just started working.

Updated to the W8 beta driver which didn't exist when I last checked the website :/

    Hopefully will fix the problem.

Also unticked a power saving box in device manager under the EDIMAX driver

Problem still persists. I guesstimated around 15minutes but it's more sometimes, sometimes 30mins or more.

Just to note if I unplug the USB dongle and plug it straight back in (it re-connects in like 4 seconds) the problem goes away and the connection goes back to normal speed.

So every time it hits this weird speed bottleneck I have to unplug/replug my USB EDIMAX dongle to fix the situation. Really starting to get cheesed off with it now I'm trying to do coursework

The reason I ask because the chipset drivers package is responsible to install all the drivers for your Mother Board built in devices such as USB ports, Network Controller etc... Without it, your built in devices will use the basic default drivers that come with Windows and sometimes can cause instability. Please go back to the manufacturer website and look for the chipset drivers specifically for your MB, download and install.
