    It depends on, if you use a (modem-) router which has settings for it or if you have dial-up / local on your computer stored connection settings (User / Password) or if you use the wireless-card, which could use the build-in assistant in Windows or a separate Software from HP (didn't check if there is a Software from HP).

    If you use Wireless, then there is an option in the software or within Windows for it, which get's usually only ticked to activate auto-connect.

Pretty much says it all, upgrade from Win 7 was dropping connections but after I disabled allow the computer to turn off the wireless it doesn't drop the connection but I have to manually connect it every time I boot or logout/in.
