I just got a new desktop yesterday. It is a computer from CyberPowerPC with Windows 8 64-bit. I have been unable to connect to the wireless at all, however I can connect to the internet with an ethernet cable.

I have reinstalled my network card drivers, the network card is a RealTek PCie GBE Family Controller.

In my computer settings menu, I do not have a "Wireless" menu listed.

I have checked in my device manager to ensure that my card is on.

There are no duplicate hidden devices in the device manager.

In Network and Internet > Network Connections it only shows an ethernet adapter.

I know there are several threads on this but I have been unable to find a working answer in any of these threads. I have been searching for an answer for something like seven hours, I would really appreciate it if someone could help.

The results of ipconfig /all are usually asked for, so here they are:

Yes as you can see, it appears that this wireless NIC is not listed in the ipconfig/all as it should be. At least this gives us a reason why it's not working. I see that you tried to reinstall the driver to no avail.

It may help to shut down the machine and unplug from the wall, push the power button to bleed off all power, plug back in and turn on machine, this sometimes gets the machine to see the pci-e NIC again. Removing the pci-e NIC and reinstalling is another option.

Have you tried using system restore to restore your system to a previous working condition?

Do you have a third party anti virus or firewall installed on this system?

A system refresh or system reset is another option if all else fails but you would lose your installed programs and most possibly everything else.

I just got a new "desktop" yesterday.

Now, this may sound like a really stupid question but I just have to ask. Anyway, most "desktop" users (that I know) do not have a wireless connection capability because they never ordered that option when they purchased the desktop. So, did you order a desktop with wireless connection capability and/or do you see anything that looks like an antenna on the back of your desktop? I apologize if this question seems too basic.

I feel like a total idiot right now... It never really occured to me that it wasn't wireless capable. Guess that's what happens when you come from a laptop >< How much does a wireless card cost and how can I know if it works with my computer? I presume a card that connects to the motherboard would be faster, if my motherboard supports it?

I was under the assumption that you reinstalled the drivers for the wireless NIC which showed up in Device Manager, I guess you reinstalled the drivers for the Realtek Ethernet. Yes, not many desktops come with wireless support these days.

The wireless PCI-e NIC cards can be faster "up to 450Mbps" if your router supports those speeds and has 802.11n with channel bonding but they are a bit more work to install.

I get 300Mbps using my D-Link DWA-140 USB NIC which you can get from Amazon for next to nothing.
