Hi folks,
I am a home user trying to use a PPTP VPN connection from Portugal to the UK and this is a new laptop. Frustratingly the connection worked initially but I must have changed something while setting up all my stuff on here since then and I now get error 807 when trying to connect. I have checked the internet and tried various solutions suggested but nothing has worked.
I can ping the VPN server but when I try to telnet to it via port 1723 it fails even though I have disconnected the Windows firewall and disabled AVG.
I only have limited IT knowledge but would really appreciate any suggestions that would help.

Windows 7 Pro PPTP VPN error 807 and will not connect to remote - Microsoft Community

VPN Error 807 when connecting to established VPN using Windows 7. Works with Windows XP on same setup.

Here is the take on that error code from MSFT...

807
The network connection between your computer and the VPN server was interrupted. This can be caused by a problem in the VPN transmission and is commonly the result of internet latency or simply that your VPN server has reached capacity. Please try to reconnect to the VPN server. If this problem persists, contact the VPN administrator and analyze quality of network connectivity.

This type of answer comes up over and over again.

How to fix?

A error code 807 typically is either the client or the server is behind a NAT device and does not pass through GRE protocol 47. If GRE protocol 47 isn't pass through the NAT device you'll get 807. you'll also get 807 if port 1723 isn't forwarded from the NAT device to the VPN server if the server is behind a NAT device. VPN servers usually have packet filters which restrict inbound connection to only PPTP or L2TP.
