Internet working on browser but not metro apps

I connected an Ethernet cable at my workplace to a Windows 8 laptop. At the bottom right in desktop, the network symbol has a yellow exclamation sign and says "No internet access"/"Limited". This is a secured intranet, so I logged in with my company credentials when the browser started.

The IE browser connects to the internet normally. When I open metro apps such as Weather, it says the Internet is offline.

    Any ideas? Thanks

From what I've read about this problem you should be able to reset winsock and tcp/ip and fix this problem.

Also, certain anti virus software's can cause this problem like AVG, in which case you would need to uninstall them using the special tool.

Just type the following two commands, one at a time, into an elevated command prompt, hit enter after each one then reboot your machine.

netsh winsock reset catalog (reset winsock entries)

netsh int ip reset reset.log hit (reset TCP/IP stack)

If this doesn't fix the problem then a refresh is supposed to fix it as well but you will lose most of the stuff you installed.

    Refresh Windows 8

I tried your suggestion, but nothing changed. I have to be on a proxy connection, is there any solution dealing with proxies?

    Thanks.

Are you using a Windows live account? Without that the Apps won't work as they should.

    These links might also help.
