Cannot save computer as "Home" computer

When I go to advanced system settings and choose Home instead of business, when I save and restart it is still on Business network. I have windows 8 pro 64 bit on a HP pavilion elite 8 gb ram i6 1tb drive. I have made sure that the services below are running as well as set to Auto.

    o Computer Browser
    o DHCP Client
    o DNS Client
    o Network Connections
    o Network Location Awareness
    o Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
    o Server
    o TCP/IP Netbios helper
    o Workstation

Also, I have recently "refreshed" my computer which I thought had fixed it. It actually fixed the "turn file sharing" not saving issue I was having, now this.

Mike6623, I don't understand what you are referring to. If you mean the network type is set to business instead of home, note that both are exactly the same thing. In fact, in Windows 8 it is now a more realistic "Private" and "Public."

So it's normal to not save changes?

I get there by computer properties - network ID when I chose thus is a home computer and save, it never saves.

Ok. Now you really have me confused. In your initial post, you state that you have Windows 8. Windows 8 only has Public and Private when identifying networks. You also state that you get "there" by Computer Properties - Network ID. You can't get there that way in Windows 8.

Please explain exactly what your problem is; we are all confused.

I do have windows 8, and when I click computer properties, advanced system settings, and network ID, I have the choice "is this a business network or home private network. When I chose home, and save, it never saves it. Sorry if I am confusing you.

    Thanks!

Ah, now I see. You don't have to worry about that (it is actually OK), IF the following is true: In that same box, click on Change. it should point to a Workgroup (doesn't matter what it is called. It should be WORKGROUP, by default).

This allows you to see the other computers on your network, regardless of if they are in the same workgroup. You are good.
