Hi guys, I have a fresh install of Windows 8 on my desktop computer. However I've run into some major issues with accessing my NAS (Media Server/Hard Drive)

#1 - I cannot for the life of me map my NAS as a network drive anymore.

#2 - This the important one, I can't see over 80% of the files stored on my NAS, only the most recently updated ones. I can see them just fine from my brothers laptop that came preinstalled with Windows 8, and no issues whatsoever with other computers on the networks on Win 7. Is this an issue with fresh installs? If so how can I remedy this?

If you guys could help out I would be very grateful!

1. Can you give an example?

2. Also an example of a file you can't see and it's permissions (right-click, Properties, security).

(screenshots are pretty.)

The settings in the link below have been working to allow access to certain NAS, and older Windows servers among other things.

Just thought I might another thing I noticed. In both metro IE10 & Desktop IE10 I'm unable to access ANY settings when I try to log into the NAS. I've attached a screenshot below. However Chrome (Desktop) has no issues logging in.

I did ipconfig /all as well, after looking at some other forums about this issue. Here is what I get. My NAS ip address is 192.168.1.91

Windows 8 non pro version won't have those settings which would allow you to access your NAS.

The partial access to folders on the NAS could be an ownership problem or permissions problem, so taking ownership of those folders may be required, hard to say for sure.

There are some registry settings that relate to those security settings, although I haven't test them on the non pro version of Windows 8, this may not be relevant because it appears you have partial access to the NAS.

Ok so I bit the bullet and upgraded to W8 Pro, this time I have no access at all even via Chrome to even access the router. I attempted changing the security policy settings, I believe I have done this correctly but no avail.

Some help would be super at this point, really losing faith in W8 system. Perhaps I should just revert back to W7?
