I am running windows 8 pro, I have the "alow remote access" checked as I should and I have read plenty of threads on how to do it. Now, when I am at work, I want to remote into my home desktop. My work pc is win 7 pro. When I enter my home ip it gives the "cannot connect" either the computer is this or that etc.

What am I doing wrong. I followed the guide but to no avail. AS long as my home pc is set to accept remote connections, why am I having this issue.?

When you enabled "allow remote access", I believe it made an exception in your firewall for private networks, you probably need to add public networks also. Disable your firewall completely and test, if it works, you know what the problem is. Are you behind a router?

You forgot about port forwarding on your router. Forward port 3389 to your home machine's internal IP address.

How is this done? I have a netgear 4500 (I believe) I didn't see an area for 4 numbers just a place for a long address? Also how in the world are you getting almost 700mb dl speed!?

You can just add the check mark for Public in Windows firewall settings.

There are also settings for Remote Management, second picture.

Team Viewer also works well for this. :)

Eveything that is mentioned has been done. I can remote in using the remote desktop connection using another home computer (that is on my network) but when I am at work and try to remote in to my home pc I cannot. What am I doing wrong?
