    Wireless Randomly Disconnecting

So I've had a new HP Pavilion G6 for several weeks. In the last three days, every few hours it will randomly disconnect, and won't re-connect unless I restart my computer. The other laptop in the house is not having any problems, so I don't think it's the router. I tried re-installing the WiFi driver but it's still doing it.

In my Events Log I notice that before each disconnect there's an unidentified event with the Intel Wireless as a source: "The description for Event ID 5007 from source NETwNe64 cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer."

I checked previous threads on random disconnects but they all seem to deal with a connection that disconnects every few minutes, not hours.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance for your help!

Does your VPN require login details? Are you sure these are correct? Have you double checked the address is correct? Did this work on older versions of windows? Are you sure the remote network is still accepting your connection?

If you are 100% sure your settings are correct and it worked on older versions of windows then try connecting again with an older version of windows and comparing the settings.

I have no problem setting up various VPN's in win 8 with all sorts of different settings.

I'm seeing the same thing on a Thinkpad Carbon X1. Disconnects every few hours and spews this message to the system event log. I've tried several different versions of the driver including the original Thinkpad one and the ones from the Intel site.

    Hey demthvin,

I'm glad I'm not the only one! I had an X1 Carbon for a while (no longer... I've since returned it) and during the time I had it, I noticed the occasional wifi dropout and/or Limited Connectivity message. I had a ton of Wifi issues with Windows 8 with my Acer V5 and it was a surprise that even my Thinkpad started having problems. Nobody else seemed to have reported this problem on the Thinkpad....

Anyways I no longer have the X1C and I've replaced it with the Asus UX31A. Interestingly the Asus has the same Intel Centrino chipset as the X1C. I am also running into Wifi problems with my Asus. It disconnects, mentions something about the NetwNe64 and I cannot reconnect. The only solution is to do a network adapter reset through the Network Diagnostic program.

I have also tried the latest Intel drivers for the network adapter. It makes no difference.

I recall that I didn't have any issues for a while when I first got my UX31A. I *suspect* that there might have been a Windows Update that is conflicting with the wifi drivers. At some point in the past it got so bad I lost Wifi within 24hours. I recently did a Windows refresh and did not do install any Windows Update for a few days. Wifi was 100% rock solid. Then I did the updates and now I think I'm starting to have issues again.

Me too! I have an HP laptop that has been doing it since purchase. I've tried all kinds of things such as Windows Updates, driver updates, change power settings, change network adapter settings, etc, etc. Sure would like to find the solution!

Use a free program like Xirrus Wifi Inspector to see the channels used by your neighbors, pick a channel and change router settings to one with less useage. Check router location, not near cordless phone base, high off floor as possible, not enclosed by shelf, away from wall and window frames, check hardware properties for adapter, power management, uncheck Allow computer to turn off to save power.

I believe I have finally fixed it! I found a post on another thread that suggested to uninstall the Network Adapter and then reboot. I did that and haven't had any problems since!

*UPDATE* - Nope, didn't fix it! still trying to figure out how to keep it from dropping. I HATE Windows 8!!!

So my computer stopped doing it entirely for months, and has recently started up again. The other laptops in the house were having issues but we restarted the router and that seemed to resolve the issue EXCEPT for my laptop, of course! It's like something triggered it again. Getting the same error messages in the Event Log.

I can usually "resolve" it by either disabling/enabling or simply hitting "connect" to the network again. But it comes in spurts where it'll happen 5x in 10 minutes and then not at all for the rest of the night.

I'll try fiddling around with the channels.
