Can't access all of the internet

Every so often, I believe from after waking up the computer from sleep, I can't access all of the internet. Only the pages I had up when I closed the computer. (facebook, google, gmail etc).

It doesn't matter which browser I use (chrome, firefox or IE), or if I switch networks, the problem persists.

If I run command prompt, and use

    ipconfig \dnsflush

(or whatever it is, it always takes me a few times to get it right)
then restart my computer, it fixes the problem.

What could be causing this issue and how do I stop it from happening?
    Thankyou

Try going to Control Panel>Device Manager, open up Network adaptors, find the adaptor that you are using for this connection and right click to properties, go to the Power Management tab, un-check the "Allow this computer to turn off this connection to save power" setting, hit ok.

This setting seems to cause problems with the connection not resuming from standby mode in some cases.

See if your issue is resolved after making the adjustment and let me know if it worked.

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you, I had to wait to see if the problem happened again.
Sadly, just this morning it happened again, right in the middle of me browsing as well.
I didn't even so much as minimize the browser and all of a sudden I couldn't access any new sites.

Have you tried turning off the other power saving features in Power Options advanced settings.

You could try using the high performance setting then turn off all power saving features and see if that fixes the problem. Then you can try enabling them one at a time to narrow it down to the one causing the problem.

This link shows you how to get to those settings.

    FYI:
ipconfig /dnsflush : empties your local resolver cache. Windows builds a temporary cache of recent requests, so it doesn't have to go out asking a DNS server for everything like repeated requests.
ipconfig /displaydns : displays the content of the DNS Cache.

Make sure you have the following services running:
    COM+ Event System
    Computer Browser
    DHCP Client
    DNS Client
    Network Connections
    Network Location Awareness
    Remote Procedure Call
    Server
    TCP/IP Netbios helper
    WLAN AutoConfig
    Workstation

And also, reset your router to rebuild the router cache
