Router: Got me on this one. Win8 has WPA2-Personal/Enterprise; XP and router have WPA2-PSK; which ones?

There should also be a setting for encryption, you want to go with AES rather than TKIP.

Does your connection show as connected in the Windows 8 Network and Sharing Center?

It does not. I can disconnect and reconnect and it tries to identify the network for about 2 minutes then fails; public even changes to private and goes back to public. It shows the router name and allows me to try and create a homegroup and that also fails.

Edit: The "Access Type" is "Internet".

It sounds like something left over from Comodo is blocking this connection from being seen by Windows.

Have you tried using the comodo removal tool, the one I posted may not work but it may help to look around for another one.

Ok, strange problem here probably caused by previous A/V installation or something along those lines.

Try running the file below, unzip and run the file as admin, your machine will reboot itself. Let me know if anything changes.

There could also be some file corruption from what you are saying so try running the sfc/scannow command and let me know what it says.

    The log file is attached:

    C:\Windows\system32>sfc/scannow

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
    Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some
of them. Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For
example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. Note that logging is currently not
    supported in offline servicing scenarios.

If you don't want to look through that entire file, here is the unrepaired list:

As I suspected, this problem has nothing to do with networking and lots to do with missing or corrupted files, maybe even the registry is messed up also but who knows. The ipreset won't be able to fix all that.

At this point it may be best to refresh the system. I'm not sure if this system has ever worked correctly or not but reinstalling is another option.

    ok if you insist.

I have had some blue screens and 2 forced sfc scans; I may do a reset if things do come out right from the refresh. This is not my primary OS on this machine, but I sure would like to get it working so I can keep up with MS.

I installed this over a Preview version, has this been an ongoing problem?
