    Dell1505 WLAN 802.11n Card - Windows 8 installed driver

Hi All. I finally upgrade to Windows 8 Pro over the weekend and noticed that my internet speeds went from 28-30mb downloads to 1-2mb downloads. I couldn't figure out why and after reading many, many forums, I realized it was the driver for my wireless card. It's the Dell 1505 WLAN 802.11n draft card that came with my Dell Studio XPS 435T/9000 desktop. The driver installed looks to be a generic Broadcom driver (version 5.100.245.20) from 3/13/2012. I went through Dell's website and installed package R205375, which would roll my driver back to the working version from October 2008 (worked perfectly fine). The install went fine and my speed tests went back to the 28-30mb range for downloads. Well, low and behold, I got the blue screen of death. It got so bad that it forced me to do a system restore just so I could access windows again. I've tried to roll back the driver to the older version, but get the blue screen every time!!! It's the IRQL_UNKNOWN_ERROR that is received each time. Can anyone help me? I've tried other versions of the driver, and it never works. =( =(

    **UPDATE**
I tried running the R205375 patch update for the driver in compatibility mode for Windows 7 and Vista, and when I go to connect to my wifi access point, I get the blue screen. I'm clueless where to go from here...

Have you tried posting on the Dell users forum? People there knowledgeable about Dell systems. The Desktop hardware forum would be best place to post.

Maybe it's time for a USB wireless adapter. Here are some USB 2.0 possibilities from Newegg. Note that some items depicted are not USB wireless adapters. It might be worth buying one just to avoid fiddling with your problem.

Thanks for the advice. I started looking at usb adapters late last night since I can't find anything about my current wireless adapter. I keep hoping they will come out with a windows 8 version, but I'm not sure it will fix the issue. What is a good usb adapter that is windows 8 compatible? I was looking at the Cisco Linksys AE1000 or the 1200.

You are very welcome. There are a good number that are supposed to work with Win8. I would go to newegg.com and search on USB wireless adapter. Then, when finding one that is supposed to work with Win8, I'd read the reviews. Good reviews on newegg. I've had no personal experience with any of USB adapters said to be OK with Win8.
