Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller - Limited connection?

Hi,
Recently I did a clean install of Windows 8 Pro on my Asus K53SV laptop, i did not notice this right away since my Wi-Fi is working with no flaws but when i try an Ethernet connection, it gives me an unidentified network and a limited connection.
Iv tried resetting the router, tried multiple drivers (ones from asus site and realtek site), connecting directly to the router and modem but they all seem to come out as a limited connection. I have also tried reset winsock entries and reset TCP/IP stack.
I don't want to do a clean install if its not gonna have a very high chance that it will fix this issue; I have a desktop that's connected via Ethernet and it has no problems getting connection. Are there any other ways I can fix this?

The Asus site doesn't show an updated LAN driver for Windows 8 yet.

Have you tried going directly to Realtek for the driver, it shows a driver for Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller half way down the first page for Windows 8.

Site 1 is for the US mirror download site.

I tried the latest drivers from the realtek site but it still gives me limited connection

Do you have any third party anti virus or firewall installed?

Anything from Apple like iTunes?

I had avast! on my computer, but I just went ahead and tried a refresh of windows 8 and it seems to be working fine now with Ethernet connections
but.... now my wireless connection is telling me it has a limited connection loll... would it have anything to do with my router? Since my Ethernet connection is also through the router, can I only have one type of connection through this router?

You will definitely want to uninstall Avast using it's special uninstall tool.

It's been causing endless problems with Windows 8 connections.
