Random Internet Disconnections?

So I have been having an issue lately that has become quite annoying! This only happened once I upgraded to Windows 8. My internet will randomly disconnect (what I assume) and then reconect within a couple seconds. Basically while I'm playing a game or trying to download a large file is where I notice it. Example, World of Warcraft, I will be playing and then realize that I'm not interacting with the world. After a couple seconds I will end up at the login screen stating I was disconnected. I can then log back in, but then get disconnected maybe about 15 or so minutes later. Does this constantly.

Router is a WRT54G with DDWRT firmware, this is being used as my wireless adapter per say. I have another router across the house that it connects to. Again this only started after I upgraded, I really don't want to downgrade since I enjoy Win 8 a lot. If it helps my Mobo is MSI X79A-GD65 (8D).

Perhaps you need a more recent driver or firmware update.

I tried the most recent driver and the one that is stock with Win 8. Then I can't update the firmware on the router since the latest version was way back in 2010.

I have a wireless dual band N adapter and I tried that, but it won't connect to any network except for the WRT54g that I'm using. It's really strange.

I used a WRT54gs for a long time. Your g (and my old gs) just may be too old for 8 (not sure). You say "I have another router across the house that it connects to." I get the "connects to" part, but are you using both routers at the same time one way or another? If so, then you might disconnect one and focus on the other. The dual band router should be pretty new. Why not try focusing on it, at least temporarily, to see if you can get it to work properly. Maybe it needs driver/firmware update(s).

Have you done Win8 updates? Did your router work properly before the updates. If not, then you could uninstall those not having to do with system files. And, you could system restore out of all of them if you have an appropriate restore point. Remember that system restore will take you system back to the restore-point date and, thus, will uninstall any software installed thereafter. You files will be unaffected, but should be backed up. Note that I have no specific knowledge that undoing the updates will help with a networking problem. Undoing them has helped with some Win8 problems.
