Without any working drivers from the manufacture of your machine about all you can do is to try using the various compatibility modes. If the driver was for Windows 7 then use the Windows 7 mode.

Compatibility Mode - Use in Windows 8

You might also try turning off the fast start feature because it's been known to cause connection problems on certain systems.
Fast Startup - Turn On or Off in Windows 8

No it's not for programs it's for drivers or I would not have posted it in the first place.

The link I posted explains very clearly how to use compatibility mode.

I appreciate your input I see that it explains clearly .....for older programs... it does not explain how to get a driver or hardware to function, I have adapted the instructions to my needs, and worked my way through it and still no luck with my Network Adapter .....I am uninstalling today and heading back to windows 7

It works perfectly fine with drivers as well.

The word "program" was used to describe software, this means any type of software but mostly it is in fact used to install drivers as this link explains. Windows 8 Compatibility Mode The Digital Dilemma

Although it appears there is a Windows 8 driver for this Download Atheros AR5007EG WLAN Driver 3.0.0.119 for Windows 8 x64 Driver for Windows 8 x64 - Softpedia

If this was an upgrade install you might try a clean install.

If you installed a third party anti virus software than uninstalling it might be another option because that driver should be working for you.

Yes there seems to be many complaints about that particular network adaptor not working with Windows 8 despite that fact that they have released an updated driver for Windows 8 so your not alone with this problem.

Here is another one that is supposed to work but who knows.

Or maybe the driver link posted by Dave about 3/4 down the page will work.
