I've got 2 users home network that uses a lot of bandwidth just updated my comcast xfinity I get about 3.965mbytes/s but when one use downloads the other user is effected if he is playing a multiplayer video game. I've got TEW-652BRP Trendnet router with motorola modem. I was wonder if my router was weak to perform this task? If so anyone can suggest a good router? I can barely get wifi signal even though the router is in the other room like 10 feet away.:cry:

Thanks for your time.

Why don't you just cap the computers so that they both have a maximum of 2Mbps each.

it is possible but you would need to reflash your router with DD-WRT User Interface. This will invalidate your routers warranty, but will give you control over the routing of output to your computer.
If your interested and have a few hours to spare check out DD-WRT.

You could consider a dual band router. During heavy use one individual could be one band, while the other is on another. There are plenty of good dual band routers. I use an AirPort Extreme base stattion and recommend it highly, but you may want to shy away from an Apple router. Note that 5 Ghz range is limited, when it comes to signal strength, compared to the 2.4 GHz range. If your router is 10' away with only basic wall in between, then you shouldn't be having a problem now or with a good new dual band router.

Yea I should of gotten a better router, I was thinking of getting a new one with better range but I'm just too not sure.

I'm not saying your router is bad. Just that you might find a different one more suited to the circumstances you mention.

on the router it just says tew-652brp H/W: v2.2r???

At the moment an upgrade to DD-WRT supported version is not possible on the v2.2r. Although if you go to the DD-WRT forum you may be able to flash it with the current tested version and then update it on a regular basis until it's completely functional.
What you need to access then is the Quality of service (QoS) and this will enable you to prioritize who has what. A router of quality to do this otherwise will cost you £££ or 100's of dollars. This is the cheap but works method.

Sorry cancel that as the model is currently not in Work in Progress. (WiP)

So, it looks like you will have to buy a new router then.
Looking for one to suggest!

I found this one at Best Buys for 39.99 US Dollars. Link Below. This is an excellent router. Please ignore the bad reviews some people don't know what their talking about! Buy it, then install latest firmware then go to QoS and then control the bandwidth. Simples!

NETGEAR - Refurbished N600 Dual-Band Wireless-N Router with USB - WNDR3400-100NAR

Are there routers out there that get full support from time to time rather than just get abandoned after it releases? The review on that router isn't that great.

I've always found Netgear routers to be about the best of the cheap ones.Reviews are biased always when people do not update their firmware. It will do the job for your needs at a low price I could look for a more expensive one if that's what you want?

okay I ended up buying this one netgear NetGear WNDR4000 N750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router - 750 Mbps, Dual Band, 5x 10/100/1000 Ports, IEEE 802.11 b/g/n 2.4 GHz, IEEE 802.11 a/n 5.0 GHz

I tried downloading in 1 computer wired and the other computer was streaming video and it started to lag big time.....

Okay now what you need to do is setup QoS. You need to halve the Mbs from your ISP then take away 20%. That figure is what you use to input as the max output to each computer.
I.E
10Mbs / 0.5 = 5Mbs -20% = 4mbs.
4Mbs per second is the final figure you need to input as max to each computer.

Try that and let me know...
