    Internet randomly dropping

Hi. Since I installed w8 my internet has been randomly dropping out. I have a WD MyNet 750 router and a D-link DFE-530TX+PCL fast Ethernet adapter with the most up to date firmware and driver, respectively. We have a gateway DX4300-05 desktop, Acer laptop, android and windows smartphones, and an Xbox. When the internet drops, the wireless devices still detect the router signal which makes me think it might be an adapter issue. Also I have tried to bypass the router with no luck. When I reset my modem however, the internet comes back. ANy help would be appreciated!

It certainly sounds like a modem issue/ISP problem. Call your ISP for their input? What do you mean by "I have tried to bypass the router with no luck." Are you saying the an Ethernet machine can't get to the internet when connected directly to the modem?

Thanks for the response. I have talked with my ISP (knology) and they can find no issues on their end. What I mean by "bypass the router", is that when the internet goes down, I have tried connecting my computer directly to the modem yet I still have no internet until I restart the modem.

Still sounds like the modem. Are your resisting pinning it on the modem? Why?

No, not at all. Have you heard of something like this happening to a modem? I never had a problem until I updated from Win 7 to Win 8.

Yes, I have had at least one modem that died on me after yielding intermittent problems. I suppose it could be Win8. Can you borrow a modem? Presumably, you'd have to change the Mac address with your ISP. Another idea. Are both of your computers Win8? I assume that the desktop is Win8 and Ethernet connected. Not sure about the Acer. Whether or not the Acer is Win8, why not try using it via Ethernet for awhile--leaving the desktop out of the system for the same period. You also could try connecting the Acer directly to the modem.

The laptop is not Win 8. Thanks for the suggestions. I'll give them a shot.

Last time the internet dropped, we connected our laptop directly to the modem and we still had no internet. I guess I will call my ISP and see what they can do for me. It just seems weird that I didn't have any issues until I installed Win 8.
