Activating media streaming and the result

    Hello

I have an issue regarding a feature in windows 8, called media streaming. Recently i acquired a new TV which has DLNA, so according to instructions i followed to be able to steam my meda on a PC to TV.

    This instructions were following:
Navigate Network & Sharing and in adnvaced options click on link "Choose media streaming options", with other words i activated that features, i made those files seeable on a TV.

Basically it works ok, i can navigate to that streaming part, but i have an issue that i can't see all of my films. When i activated that feature in "My computer" in Network => Network devices i found my own computer, double clicking on it, start windows media player, but even that media player doesn't show all my movies.

I suppose it doesn't support those formats? Or how do i make it support all formats and be able to play them, because a lot of those films are kinda very often used formats ....

    Any help/advise would be apprecaiated

I might not answer your question directly, but I found this regarding streaming:
A new tutorial on enabling and using the DLNA server in Windows 8

Let me know if this helps. I am presently also interested to stream pictures and movies to my TV. I have not tried it yet but would like to know how to do that.

This is a good guide, however, I still have issues myself. I used to set it up on Windows 7 just like guide above explains and it worked perfectly, every time, without any hiccups.

Now, on Windows 8, the DLNA doesn't work properly at all. I have it all set up but does not stream to my xboxes. I also tried Plex and that worked last night but then today it doesn't work. Very disappointed in the reliability of the streaming ability of Windows 8.
Just FYI: My setup on Windows 7 was to set up all my movies to be shared on the network as explained in the guide. Also, I would add all folders that contained the movies to the videos section of WMP under organize>Manage Libraries. After I did that WMP would sync my movies and they would show up on all xboxes in the house and anyone could navigate to System Video App on xbox and browse all the movies and play one from there.

Anyone know how to make that work again? I am confused why it doesn't work as easy. Thanks

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that playing or streaming video's with Windows Media Player is NO LONGER SUPPORTED with Windows 8. Don't blame me, I'm just the messenger.

You need to use Windows Media Center these days. For DLNA to work you need to set up a Homegroup then use the Public folders to share with other devices, this according the tutorial in the link.

That may be the case. However, a friend of mine upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8 and it still works for him with no issues.

This problem most likely has to do with which ever Anti Virus software is installed.

Yea I am not sure. I tried installing a fresh copy of Windows 7, setting up the DLNA through WMP and verified it worked on the xbox. I didn't install any AntiVirus, or anything else. I then did a Windows 8 upgrade and it still didn't work. My friend said he upgraded his windows 7 PC and it worked fine for him the first time, maybe something to do with my network configuration, I just don't know. I found a workaround though called Plex. It works the way Windows 7 did so I am content now. I thank you for your help.
