"Can't connect to this Network"

Hi,
I bought an Asus G75vw couple days back with windows 8. Everything was working fine except that i couldn't connect to my wireless router. It had a WEP encryption. After I entered the Network Security key, I Kept on getting "Can't connect to this network", troubleshooting didnt help either. Then I updated all drivers from Asus support website and it connected after a restart. I was quite delighted but the next day again i got the "cant connect to this network" message. So I changed my encryption to WPA2-PSK (AES) and even updated the firmware of my router. Still no luck. I have googled around a lot but couldnt find any proper solution.
:(

Any help will be greatly appreciated!

I've also seen this on a few machines and it is happening with WPA security and if the wireless is unsecured. I think it may be a driver issue, I'm just not 100% positive as of yet. Any help is appreciated.

I have Qualcomm Atheros AR9485WB-EG Wireless Network Adapter btw. So i dont know if its Microsoft's fault or Qualcomm's :-(

I think it's the Atheros card. I managed to get it to work with an old driver but as soon as it restarted it failed again.

I also used the old driver. It connects but after a restart i get the same problem again :(
I think its a problem with Qualcomm Atheros AR9485Wb-EG Wireless Network Adapter. I try updating and it says I already have the latest version. I dunno how long i'll have to wait for an official update that corrects this flaw. :(

Funny thing is, I go to Device Manager-> Network Adapters -> right click on Qualcomm Atheros AR9485WB-EG Wireless Network Adapter and select uninstall, it asks me if i want to delete driver files, i click yes. and a red X mark comes on my network icon saying no device found, I restart my system and the stupid Qualcomm Atheros AR9485WB-EG Wireless Network Adapter is still there!!! I just uninstalled it and it still shows its there! This thing is driving me crazy ! :(

We spoke with Cisco who, of course, pointed fingers at Microsoft. We were able to remove some of the security settings and now all my Windows 8 machines can connect to our school's network. I'm not sure what settings were removed, but I will ask our network admin tomorrow for more details.

Have you found out what settings that were removed? I really need to know, i'm having the same issue as you had.

Same problem for me. WPA2-PSK networks will ask for the key and take it but never complete the session. Cisco does point the finger at Microsoft for good reason,. It is because No other OS has problems connecting to WPA2-PSK networks EXCEPT for Microsoft Win 8. I have Multiple WLAN's broadcasting WPA2-PSK wireless networks from Vendors including and not limited to Cisco WLC based networks and Android phones, Samsung G3, Android phones, iPad, Macbooks, tablets etc. all connect just fine. We took some laptops that had Win 8 on them and made them Win 7 and even Win XP and all work. A blind man could see that Cisco is not the common denominator,. Win 8 is. I am currently working on getting my
Asus laptop S400C with
Qualcomm Atheros AR9485WB-EG Wireless Network Adapter
Driver Version is 10.0.0.205
is not working currently,. I am starting here and once I find a driver that works I will post.

The security setting you are talking about is most likely changing from WPA2-PSK with AES encryption to WPA2-PSK (without AES) or maybe WEP or WPA instead of WPA2. Usually if you dumb it down you get lucky. I will post if I can test this

Got it to work with Static WEP using 40 bit keysize and static PSK,.. Also works with WPA-PSK using either TKIP or AES encryption. WPA2-PSK DOES work with TKIP encryption but NOT AES Encryption.......

Conclusion - WPA2-PSK with AES encryption does not play nice with Win 8 systems (everything else plays nice with Cisco Wireless no matter what the protocols used)

Ok, i understand what you're saying. But why don't I have any issue with any other win8 computers? The only one I got trouble with, is the one's with the Qualcomm Atheros AR9485WB-EG Wireless Network Adapter inside.

Hmmm that's new to me. We have had trouble with multiple types of adapters and the common denominator is always Win 8 + WPA2-PSK with AES wifi networks (no matter the wifi vendor). Have you tried or tested others? Please list the ones that have been tested and work here so we can give future viewers of this thread more valuable info. I will reply later on with the additional ones I have had trouble with as well.

Testing with the scientific method in mind is critical in giving accurate info to the vendors and users/admins out there. Hypothesis, unbiased documented test procedure, conclusion. I come from a medical/pharmaceutical background (before I switched majors to IT back in college) and I also work in an IT lab so I always test whatever it is someone "says" or "thinks" because people like to be biased and lazy (me too sometimes ;) and I'm constantly proving people wrong and collecting information that even vendors themselves don't know. Anyway it would be appreciated if you can list what does work with WPA2-PSK AES WLANs and I will do the same. We will save some headaches in the process and maybe collect some good kharma :)

It works fine with the Asus zenbook U500VZ with windows 8. It has Intel(R) Centrino(R) Advanced-N 6235
Wireless Network Adapter inside. It connects easily to WPA2-Personal with AES.

The only one ive got problem with is the Asus vivobook S200 i3, who has the Qualcomm Atheros AR9485WB-EG Wireless Network Adapter inside. With this one i cannot connect to the WPA2-Personal with AES encryption no matter what...
