    Programs can't access network shares

Just upgraded 2 computers, a laptop and a desktop to windows 8, clean install.

I shared my files on the desktop and mapped it to my laptop as a network drive. i am able to access it through explorer and programs like chrome but some programs can't even see the drive. Tried using UNC paths but the programs still can't seem to access the shares. Both computers are on the same homegroup. Granted Everyone full control to the folder, advanced shares, blah..

    Am I missing something?

Besides the permissions tab and granting permission to Everyone, try going into the Security tab of the drive and then Advanced sharing and then type Everyone into the box, hit Apply OK and see if you can access those drives.

Witch program can't see the share ? Did you add them in the safe zone of the local intranet, some software need this , this is a security for IE, but it will open the firewall for other apps too
