I have a desktop that I recently reformatted, installed Windows 7 Pro x86 and then upgraded to Windows 8 Pro. I also have a laptop running Windows 7 Pro x64. The desktop connects to the router via ethernet while the laptop uses wifi. I have 2 Xbox 360's also connected via wifi to the network.
I am now unable to stream media from the Windows 8 PC to the Xbox's, but have no problems streaming from the Win7 laptop. I was able to stream from the desktop before I reformatted it so I don't know what happened in the process. When I go into Control Panel-> Network and Sharing Center-> Advanced sharing settings-> Media Streaming Options I only see listed "Media programs on this PC and remote connections" and 2 "Unknown device." The ip addresses of the unknown devices doesn't match the Xbox's. If I go to the same place on the laptop, I see the first option, the desktop, and the two Xbox's listed.
I have been able to successfully join the two PCs into a Homegroup together (even though I have to manually override the library security settings to be Read/Write for Everyone on the desktop before I can modify files) so I know the desktop can at least communicate over the network. I have uPnP enabled on the router, and since the laptop can share fine, I assume the problem has to be with the Windows 8 computer.
Anyone have any ideas? I am pulling my hair out trying to figure it out! The only thing I've found online says to go to the Media Streaming Options and share with the 360's listed, which doesn't help since the computer won't see them!
