I have attached 2 pictures to show my issue.

First of all I have a Netgear R6300 wireless router. On the Network window is shows as a gateway. I am pretty sure it was displaying as a router on Windows 7.

Second when I try to get display the network map I get the error message that is attached.
Could anyone figure out how to display the Network Map?

Thanks
Grim

I don't think it's anything to worry about. Most likely, you don't have UPnP enabled on the router, so Windows thinks it's a gateway. The only difference between a router and a gateway is that a gateway works between two dissimilar network types. For example, a Cable Modem is a gateway.

The error message is just saying it doesn't know how to manage it, which is probably as I said with no UPnP enabled.

I have a correction. It has always been a gateway.

The issues is I still can't get the network map on Windows 8 but have no problem on Windows 7.

The Network Map no longer works in Windows 8.

It's fairly typical to see incorrect info placed in the Network infrastructure. It may be reading the MAC address incorrectly.
