So, I'm struggling to figure out what should be a simple task. I took a few pictures with my phone, I have them in my pictures library in Windows 8, and I can see them in the Photos app. I have selected the picture, I have gone to the charms bar and I have selected Share...but alas Facebook doesn't show up in the listt of apps.

I've tried with a local account, I've tried with my Live account, I've got Facebook setup within the People application. I can see all of my pictures from Facebook from within the photos application.

Like so many things, I just don't find Windows 8 to be easy.

So, who can help me out with this simple task?

Edit; So, I believe that the issue is that there is NOT yet a facebook application for metro. I'm not sure where the screenshots came from via the web where people were showing it, but I sure as heck don't see it.

First of all there currently isn't a Facebook App for Windows 8 which you would need to install in order for it to show up in the Share App list. However you almost had it, when you go to Share the App you want is the People App, select that and you can post to Facebook or anything else you have linked to it like Twitter, Linked In etc.

From within the Photos app, once a file is selected, and the Share option picked from the Charms bar...I only see 2 options

#1) email
#2) skydrive

There is no option for the People App.

Am I missing something?

are you on the release preview or the RTM release? I'm using the 90 day enterprise eval on this laptop that I am using...which I believe is the RTM release.

Well, I'm stumped. I've spent 2 hours now on trying to get People or Facebook to show up and nothing is working. I'm just baffled how unintuitive all of this stuff seems to be.

This is interesting. I just checked my work laptop which is running W8 Enterprise RTM and there I don't have the People App listed even though my People App there has my Linked In contacts. It seems it is only on Pro targeting consumers? I suspect when there is a Facebook App that it would be on the list on Enterprise so eventually it should work. I guess Microsoft figures companies don't want their employees uploading pictures to Facebook or something.

What version of the Photos app do you have on the machine that is working? Here is mine;

I can check on my work pc, because it's currently running Windows 8 Pro. But I cannot check until tomorrow as the machine is currently turned off.

This is damn frustrating if each version is going to have such subtle differences as to what they do and don't do. I've spent way too much time trying to figure this out, and it could just be that the enterprise version leaves out such a small detail. I truly hope that is not it.

So, get this.

If I pic a picture stored on my local computer, People is not in the sharing tab
If however I pic a picture from skydrive, still from within the Photos app, People DOES appear in the sharing app.
If I pic a picture from Facebook, still from within the Photos app, PEOPLE does NOT appear.

That's it! You are correct, I just realized I did select a picture from Skydrive on my Pro install because I had disabled local pictures to be displayed. I've now tried again with a local picture and I get the same thing as you. A head scratcher for sure as to why it would work that way, unless it's a bug because it really doesn't make sense.

Well, that's a relief. Thanks for sticking it out with me tonight while we tried to narrow this down.

It's almost got to be a bug
