I've been running W10 from a week after the TP came out, since then I have upgraded three pc's with only a few hiccups. I still have W7and 8.1. W10 is closer to 8.1 than it is to 7 but you can get used to it. The Edge browser promises to be more secure than IE11. If in doubt, I recommend that...
It's been so long since I took advantage of the early Windows 8 offers that I have forgotten their status. I got two copies of the cheap download and presume they count as OEM. I also bought one in PC World for £49, is this OEM or retail? I bought a set of dvd's as backup for the downloaded ones...
Sorry, I got confused by the fourth post by Phone Man. I obtained three copies of W8pro, two from the windows store and one from a retailer, these are all upgrades from an earlier OS (in my case all XP). The shop version has both discs, the Windows store versions were downloaded but I also sent...
My windows 8 pro, now 8.1 pro were all updates from XP, two of which were bought directly from Microsoft directly when they were cheap and the other was the 2 dvd retail upgrade. My question is, do I keep or bin the XP discs and COA's?
I have no trouble with 8.1 although I also use 7 and XP but he is in his 70's and is not very good with pc's. His wife has 7 on her laptop and he can manage that after using XP for years. I'm sure he could manage 8.1 if he had to.
Is there such a thing as running a fresh installation of 8.1 without having the COA or product at the time of setting up on a pc? I'm asking this because someone I know was given a laptop by his son which had Ubuntu and because Linux frightened the life out of him his son put W8.1 on it...
Having only MSE on two W7 pc's and on three W8.1 pc's, I thought that it would be sensible to heed the experts on this forum and on the W7 forum and start using Malwarebytes. I installed the free version on the first four, but forgot to untick the "trial version" on no 5. When it finished...
Try installing Mini Tool Partition Wizard, it often sees drives which are invisible to Windows, I prefer it for disc management. I have three pc's with 8.1 pro 64, I took advantage of the cheap prices and put XP on to upgrade to 8. The Asus board manual says NEC usb chip which with 8.1 shows as...
I recently bought one of those pci express cards with two external ports and a twenty pin internal connector and Win 8.1 pro 64 had installed the correct drivers before I had time to put the mini cd into the drive.
