No worries, problem with "clear all" even though it sorted the install it then affected activation as it was an upgrade and now there was no copy of Win 7 anywhere. Anyway, rung MS up and because of the original install problems they sorted out the activation for me.

Oh now this is great, without the win8 disk I get not bootmger, with disk it goes straight into windows.

Didn't find any under C:/Windows/System32 either Windows is under D: Boot is under C:

Hmm /rebuildbcd didn't find any windows installations

The re-instal didn't fix it! Can't understand why a nice fresh instal wouldn't load the bootmgr correctly.

I've just started the re-instal, but if I still have a bootmgr problem, I'll go to C:\Windows\System32 to do the bootrec commands. Thanks, Steve

Under what command prompt? Was is X:\Sources, C:, or C:\Boot? Thanks, Steve

After having to reinstal win 8 due to stupidity on my part I am now getting the bootmgr missing. I have tried doing what it says in the MS page to rebuild it, but it still says it's missing. Note Use the Bootrec.exe tool to troubleshoot "Bootmgr Is Missing" issue. If rebuilding the BCD does...
