Windows 8.1 Fails to Impress in India Despite Massive Disc

This has all been hashed in the past, but I am certain MS recognizes it they just have an overriding desire to get people into their windows store/tablet/phone world and they are willing to sacrifice a generation of their OS to fulfill that desire.

Hurry up and wait: Why Microsoft's holding Windows 8.1

Definition of Lemon: 5. Slang a person or thing considered to be useless or defective I don't think it is a stretch to consider the poor reception of Windows 8 and the Metro interface to be 'defined' as a lemon. To many people, the Metro UI is 'considered' useless and defective. Myself included.

Former Employee Says That Microsoft Is No Longer Cool...

This guy doesn't think a full screen, non windowed, Box based interface for desktop computers is innovative? No credibility here....

One in Three Windows 8 Users Downgrade to Windows 7

Never thought of this. I know personally around 10 people with Windows 8, and all of them use a start menu replacement. I have never personally seen someone successfully function within the stock windows 8 UI. I had one friend, who apparently tried to use Metro, end up taking the computer back...

Microsoft roll out one more update to Visual Studio 2012

Is MS going to yearly installments of Visual Studio now? That is going to be painful. I have to find a way to get away from MS products. Their decisions the last couple of years are killing me.

New Windows 8 system? Hope you're not in a hurry to use it

I really wish MS would make a condensed roll up pack about every six months which Windows update could utilize instead of downloading hundreds of individual updates. Considering all the time spent updating stuff in Windows, it seems like this would be a worthwhile effort for a small group of...

    Windows Server 2012 R2 "Blue" (9431) Released

I am confident that the start menu replacements will work... eventually. Stardock (and I am sure Classic Shell) have some A+ coders working on it and will find a way. Though I wouldn't doubt MS put up some roadblocks.

Nice. Thanks for the info! So I guess the hidden popup start thingy is going the way of the dodo.

Windows 8.1’s Success Critical for Microsoft’s “Morale”

It just seems so simple and I cannot understand how MS is not relenting. Allow users to have their preferred interface. Desktop or the touch oriented Modern. Start working on synergy between the two interfaces (something like Start 8 plus Modern Mix). As time goes on and the Modern interface...

Whats New In Windows 8.1 (Springboard Series)

Modern blah blah modern blah blah modern blah blah. Modern business's do not need or want the 'modern' interface AT ALL. They want and need Windows.

Windows 2012 server to get update or not - anybody

I am wondering this myself. Also, how will future support work for users who do not upgrade to 8.1? Nothing in 8.1 looks to have much of an effect on someone who uses a SMR and the desktop exclusively. Should I bother upgrading and risk having some type of issue with my work PC? I recently...

Continuing the Windows 8 vision with Windows 8.1

I am a developer and DBA. I am forced to use MS software because that is what my clients use. I personally am affected by the OS interface on a daily basis. So, accordingly, I want my opinion known. I do not like the direction MS is taking with Windows 8 and I would like to see it changed. That...

Hey, Microsoft: It's the apps, stupid

I am really curious what MS is going to do if a decent amount of Windows 8 users do not update to 8.1. Will all future Windows 8 updates, hot fixes, and service packs be both 8.0 and 8.1 compliant? I see nothing in this update which would prompt me to actually create a MS account and fiddle...
