I cannot find these keys in Regedit under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop .. Any idea why?
Also , any app that would log the shutdown and restart activities to know what Windows is actually doing while it is taking so much time?

I've just installed a fresh copy of Windows 8.1 and it takes a lot of time to restart/shutdown (about 5-6 min ).
Even boot times are not as fast as they should be on a new install .. (boot takes about a minute )
Can anyone help me to find out what is it that is causing the slow...
Yes my system has an i7 3630 processor with HD 4000 graphics ... and yes the 8.1 drivers on Dell are listed but they list the Intel graphics driver of Date 2013 ...
And yes , that latest build from Intel is what i downloaded and installed which gave that error ..
But Dell has the drivers which are dated 18th Oct 2013 for my Intel HD 4000 . So i thought i'd update to the latest version ..
Should i re install those 1 year old drivers ? :O

I'm facing a weird problem wherein if i delete some files , the recycle bin icon does not refresh on it's on , it still shows the empty icon until I press F5 to refresh the desktop , when the icon refreshes to show full recycle bin icon .
What to do? :huh:

Just again ran the Dell Pre diagnostic before boot , and this time it threw an error :-
So apparently the problem is with the HDD . What do you say ?
I'm contacting Dell now .
BTW they told me to download and run an application called PC doctor and it reported that the hard disk is bad and needs to be replaced .
Is that in line with our findings ?
