    The Windows 8 Task Manager

This new TaskManager is without doubt my favourite feature of Win 8. Not chuffed with Metro but I guess it will grow on one. Am using Win 8 as primary OS and have had no reason so far to go back to 7x64.

Tips and Tricks with Windows 8

from MS InfoWorld. Probably not new, but handy - Pressing the Windows key and R simultaneously brings up the Run box. Pressing Windows+I brings up your settings from the side panel. Pressing Windows+Q brings up an application search. Pressing Windows+C brings up the simple Start menu and time...

    Windows 8 Developer Preview release

Well!! There is a lot of muttering going on in my corner of the world at the moment, LOL. I installed 8 to separate partitions on my desktop and Pavilion DV6 laptop with no problem whatsoever so decided to also install on my Compaq CQ62 which is a triple core AMD with 8 GB DDR3. Made a small 35...

    Working Antivirus for Win8

IMO, allowing autorun.inf to run automatically is an open invitation to infection. This excerpt from KB967715 shows how to stop autorun: To disable Autorun yourself on operating systems that do not include Gpedit.msc, follow these steps: Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box...

    Windows 8 Developer Preview release

You probably have to have to "View Hidden System Files" in Folder options, or it is in the new ribbon on an appropriate page.

    Windows 8 Developer Preview release

I made a 50GB partition on the 7x32 drive for Win 8 and it is still 100MB with 48MB free. It hasn't increased with this setup.

    Windows 8 Developer Preview release

Good. Always remember the 15% free space required for any Windows version to work properly. 4.5 GB in this case. Cheers

    Windows 8 Developer Preview release

My Win 8 x 64 in a pretty basic operation is using up 15.4 GB. Add 15% (3 GB) breathing room for a 20 GB partition and you are getting pretty tight, but it should run fine. I made a 50GB partition for it.

    Sorry. New one on me.

    Reset PC

Not sure if there is a question in there. You can install a new OS over an old one but it will not work as such. All the old stuff is stuck into a WINDOWS OLD folder so all your files are still intact. Too late now, but you really need a separate partition to install to, or a virtual drive. Not...

Lock, Log off, Restart, Shut Down, Switch User - Windows 8

Check in your Control Panel/Power Options, press the keyboard SLEEP button (if available), I use a handy little desktop gadget - Windows Live Gallery

Lock, Log off, Restart, Shut Down, Switch User - Windows 8

Thank you for that, Brink. Can I add another couple? In Control Panel/Power Options, you can set what the Power Buttons do, Sleep/Hibernate/Shutdown (as you always could). What I have only recently learned is that a quick tap on a modern soft touch power button will start the process just the...

Will they get away with Defender?

When I finished installing Win 8, I automatically installed an AV (in this case MSSE). Are you guys saying that this is not necessary with the present build ?
