OK I just figured out a way to do it. I copied the icon and pasted into the programs folder on the toolbar. It actually worked. lol thanks for your help.

I tried that and it wouldn't work. Dragging to the toolbar for some reason isn't allowed (had one of the circle with line thru it signs)

I found a way to get my list of programs on to the tool/task bar. From there I dragged one of the programs to the desktop thinking it would just create a shortcut. It didn't. It took the program off the dropdown list and put it on the desktop. I can't find a way to put it back in the drop...

Hopachi, it sounds like vitualbox or vmware are what I need since they are simple and work with32 bit. Do you have a preferance? cheap and simple but good are my only criteria lol

Thanks for the link. Let me see if I understand this. Hyper V works with 32 nd 64. The win8 pro is 64 and the XP home is 32. So hper V will "play nice" with both?

Whew! lots of great help and information! The product code is in fact still on the underside of the dell laptop. So I can install the XP from the disc that came with the dell and use the product code from it and then do all the updates?
