well, going into the crucial memory advisor tells me that my computer is compatible with nothing as it cannot find any info for my computer.

Putting the memory on its own in a slot does the same thing, I had a quick look at the specs on an Amazon sale, and it did say low voltage ram, so I think that's why, also on the package for the ram, it says "compatible with 1333 and 1600mhz.

Update ram is ddr3 sdram (not sure if low voltage)
