I wanted to make an update on this post. I've done a few things, and made a mistake as well. Out of frustration, I had tried to update my motherboard, and found the MSi Live Updater, which turned out to be a mistake. It also had a tool to flash the BIOS to a 'newer version'... through Windows...

Uninstalled McAfee, the issue happened once more. The result:

I shall try uninstalling McAfee then. In the meantime while I was away, the DPC Latency Checker came up with a maximum of 216.053µs which will -probably- be from when the issue occurred. The SFC did come up with a message about corrupt files and that it couldn't fix some of them.

My current antivirus is McAfee VirusScan Enterprise, version 8.7.0i. It has been my Virusscanner on Win7 as well, without any issues. (I reformatted my HDD completely before installing Win8, so it was a clean reinstall back then). Im currently running a SFC scan again, I'll run the program...

Thanks Jimbo for your suggestion. I haven't noticed any bad preformance while installing or loading data, which makes me question if the harddrive has an issue.

Thanks, I'll give Speccy a shot then. Been using CPU-Z before, but Speccy is definitely a lot more advanced. I'll try to see if I can find any abnormal spikes whenever it happens again. CPU usage seems to be normal, about 10 to 15% with Chrome in the background. I couldn't spot any CPU spikes...

I don't have a macbook myself, and know very little about it. I can't help you, sorry. I'm using a (gaming) desktop.

@Brooklyn, the cause was actually a silly accident; She spilled tea all over the keyboard, and killed her laptop (Macbook). A virus is unlikely, especially since this freezing issue was happening right after I first installed Windows 8 as well. My own harddrive seems to be fine, no weird sounds...
