Hi Vadikan Many thanks that pointed me in the right direction and I was able to work out what had happened, it appears that the profile had been reset to the standard one used, so I was able to reselect the correct one, rebooted and the colours are now how they should be. All the best Heath ;)

I foolishly upgraded to windows 8 last week having paid £99.00 for the privelidge and not seen anything useful come out of it. Whilst I am chasing Microsoft for a refund, I don't expect them to be very obliging, irrespective of any consumer laws we have in this country, so the immediate problem...
