Got it fixed. Under Windows Update/Settings, I checked "Give me updates for other MS products when I update Windows" and it seems to be working fine now. Thanks for all the suggestions.

I had tried some kind of general troubleshooting, didn't know there was a specific one for updates. I ran the update troubleshooter, it says: "One or more Windows Update components are configured incorrectly." Then it stops the Bits and Cryptsvc services, then restarts them, says it's fixed. Modules Installer was set to manual. I set it to Automatic and started the service, status is Running. Still getting same update error msg.

It's set to automatic. That was part of that convoluted process that I linked in my first post. So should I just wait and see if it updates? I also have a notebook so I'll know when an update is due.

I tried temporarily disabling AVG, still got the error msg. So I disabled it completely in Task Manager and rebooted, same result. I tried booting into safe mode with network but I couldn't even get it to connect to update.

This keeps happening after the update a couple of weeks ago. I set it to 30 mins, it resets itself to 10 mins. No viruses, no malware on my system. Any suggestions much appreciated.

I reset Firefox and it's working now. Kind of a PITA because it removes all your plugins and addon's but at least it worked. EDIT: Hmmm. Well maybe this was a good thing. One of my favorite addon's that hasn't worked for a while because FF said it wasn't compatible with the new versions is now...

Up to date and set to always activate. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. Still doesn't work.

When I go to a site such as YouTube and click on the arrow to play the video nothing plays, it just shows a blank white spot. Sometimes FF also gets all wonky when I try to play a video. I disabled Flashblock but flash still isn't working. My FF is up to date with the latest version.

Downloaded, installed, backed up and verified the image in just a few minutes. Didn't even need to watch the video, it has an option to "Create an image(s) of the partitions required to backup and restore Windows". About as simple as it gets. And it didn't try to install any bloatware. Great...
