Cannot Change Icon Font (Windows 8.1)

Thanks For The SUggestions.. the advanced performance is where I found the customizations. Just don't understand why the Windows software developers bury this stuff way deep - 8.1 is the most user-unfriendly OS I have seen - it's no wonder they are "abandoning" it next year.

Cannot Change Icon Font (Windows 8.1)

OK, Thanks... I understand that - it makes sense. So is there any way to NOT have the shadows?

Cannot Change Icon Font (Windows 8.1)

I am trying to set my desktop background to a neutral grey but every time I do this the icon font changes to a hideous "hollow white" and I cannot find how to change it to a solid black. It seems that the background/font are linked and fixed. Help?

Windows Defender - Turn On or Off in Windows 8

Yes, I think that we are unable to disable certain items in RT vs. x86 Windows. I was trying to disable Defender because it makes no sense to have it running because it is impossible to modify RT (at least says Microsoft) so why have it? There cannot be any malware. Well, any way, I am very...

Windows Defender - Turn On or Off in Windows 8

I did now: and thanks for the lesson. Irrespective, I do not see any administrator choice. As I said, I am the admin (password protected) and there is also additional admin account (I have not set a password for that account yet. Do you think it's possible that, because Windows...

Windows Defender - Turn On or Off in Windows 8

Unfortunately I cannot seem to be able to insert the images. I made two images with the snipping tool (and I can see them in my pictures folder) but when I try to insert them (using desktop version of IE11, BTW) I never get the "browse dialog box"??? In any case, the only choices I have in the...

Windows Defender - Turn On or Off in Windows 8

Hi Brink: I am running Windows RT 8.1 on a Surface 2 and I am the only user so I assume that I am signed in as administrator. Is it even possible to disable Defender on this system? Is it a question of ownership and do I have to change the permissions from TrustedInstaller to something else...

Windows Defender - Turn On or Off in Windows 8

Cannot Disable Defender Despite the tutorials I cannot disable Defender from my Surface 2 with Windows 8.1 RT. There is no "Administrator" setting under the advanced settings menu in the Defender app even though I am the only user.

Could you please state the latest version of Magician? TIA

    Defrag and SSD

Downloaded the latest SSD Magician - when I go to install it I get a cryptic message that states "this product cannot be installed on Windows NT 6.1 or later...." WTF!!!! Anyway, this leads to perhaps a more fundamental issue - when I go to optimize my SSD, Windows will not allow it. I have a...

    Solved Sytem Restore Point

OK Problem solved but not good - turns out that the free version cannot make a backup on a GPT drive using EFI - not a good solution because most, if not all Win 8 tablets use this kind of storage (particularly using SSD's) - lot's of other free software to make backups but thanks for taking...

    Solved Sytem Restore Point

Problem is that I tried just that - i.e., went directly to create a backup and it wants to backup my attached Seagate GoFlex - kind of dumb since I figure it should at least autodetect where the Win 8 installation is! In fact clicking on the "Create a Backup" does absolutely nothing. Two things...

    Solved Sytem Restore Point

Sure. I installed onto my Win 8 Tablet in the default install directory (C:\Program Files). Then I plug in my Seagate Go Flex external HDD because that's where I want the backup to be. It keeps asking me to select a source (I figure that should be the tablet c:\ drive but there is no...
