yeah...problem solved by uninstalling Avast and removing an offending update KB3000850 that also had a hand in corrupting pc's.
Re-loading the latest avast fixed most issues but the corruption left Office and other programs deficient.
After sorting through the crisis created by the KB3000850 MS update clashing with Avast I am finally after two days seeing the light.
The experience has left my Outlook mail program on my Laptop hanging and not opening.

After a long and protracted effort of shutting down restarts and safe modes I have finally uninstalled the offending KB3000850 update.
I also uninstalled Avast and did a clean (meaning I am on here without protection)....
Everything seems fine except it has left my Microsoft Office...

If its KB3000850 then dont install it, especially if you are running Avast and 8.1.....it has crashed many pc's yesterday and today.........my problem is removing it......am trying a command prompt.....
Apparently this update KB3000850 is interacting with Avast users and some not Avast users to wreck their systems. Uninstalling it is the key to getting the system back to normal and waiting till they fix the issue...dont download.
Went in to uninstall it but Control Panel is clunky and wont open then it does then it doesnt....eventually gets to the program list....I uninstalled it.
The notification area "customise" button does nothing.....at least after waiting ages....
If I re-install Avast...that doesn't solve the...
ok, thanks, foun dit now how do i get it back in my normal program list under my start button and the icon back in the tray like before....why did it dissappear like that?
