Is booting from that partition somthing easy to do? If so could you tell me how?

I didn't make the back up disk, so am I just out of luck?? Do I have to buy windows 8? Is this something that I can take to someone and get fixed - or are they gonna need the back up disks that I don't have!?!?!?

My son received a new HP laptop for Christmas, it is running windows 8. He changed his windows password and doesn't remember what it is. I never got the time to make recovery disks... Is there any way to reset the password? I tried downloading some windows password unlocker on my laptop, but...
