    Happy ending... borrowed retail disc from son, installed 64bit from boot used my net bought key. et voila It's all good thanks. Appreciate your efforts guys :)

    Thanks for your time on this but I ended up downloading windows 8 again and saving it as an iso image. Problem is I only got a 2gig image and I'm guessing I still won't have the option to go 64bit with an install from this disc. I'm wondering now if I could borrow my sons retail upgrade disc...
