After unsuccessfully trying lots of things, I noticed that Windows 10 was actually listed under Optional Updates - I unticked it, as well as KB3035583, which had returned... and then a SevenForums mod suggested I could "hide" it by right-clicking it in the list and selecting Hide - and now all...
I've renamed and deleted the Download folder, then rebooted - but the Download folder has not been recreated. Do I need to be concerned?
Also, the Windows 10 update is still waiting in Windows Update to be installed.
I am posting this in SevenForums as well, as I was referred to this thread...
I did register to try Windows 10 but then decided to wait until it's "safer", as my laptops are all very busy and I can't spend lots of time troubleshooting.
Thanks again, Ztruker.
Nope! Explorer++, like the native Windows Explorer, is lumping all sorts of stuff under This PC. The 8 items under OS (C) shouldn't be there, they are on the network and should only be seen under Network.
Does my problem lie with Windows 8.1, not with Explorer? I've never seen this before...
I'm sure there must be a discussion already in existence but I can't find it.
Please don't tell me off for being a reactionary, but the fact that I am now landed with an 8.1 OS is almost devastating to me. I've made a start at making it bearable to use by installing Start8, and did something...
My new Precision M3800 has a terrible score for graphics - it's got Intel HD 4600 and also Nvidia Quadro K1100M
The oversized crop is the tool's own snapshot, which didn't work as you can see! And I can't remove it.
I should have asked where to find the forum discussion on "how to civilise Win8" rather than encourage this thread to go off-topic, sorry ;) But thank you, I'm saving those suggestions. I've installed Start8, a massive improvement and much nicer appearance than Classic Shell.
More off-topic -...
Thank you, Itaregid - I tried Classic Shell on a Lenovo Flex 10 that I briefly used and I was very unimpressed, so I shall certainly try Start8.
UPDATE RE DRIVER UPDATE - It ended up being a disaster, I later saw that I had lost the discrete graphics card, the system couldn't see it at all...
Thank you for all your responses. In the end I weakened and installed the Pro version of Slim Drivers, Driver Update. After it had efficiently done its work (well, I had one 'fatal error' that caused a reboot into the BIOS, but on restart the process continued) there was just one mystery...
I've just bought this second-hand Clevo W230ST with Windows 8.1 Pro on it and I can't live with it (I really can't, there is too much interfering with quick access to PC essentials and I haven't got time to become familiar with it) - but I can't install Windows 7 via DVD because it gets past the...
