Oh, yes, been through MANY cycles of sfc and reboot. The corruption just never gets fixed. As Brink has stated in several threads, at some point the corruption gets so bad that the only option is Refresh Windows 8. So that's what I'm doing now. Funny. I've NEVER had to reinstall a Linux OS, but...

Thanks Shawn! That did the trick... Built another VM from scratch and the Policies\NonEnum hive does not exist in a fresh install. Have no idea how that happened - certainly not by intention. Thanks for saving what little hair is left.

Does anyone have a clue why Recycle Bin is grayed out in Desktop Icon Settings?
