Okay, I feel incredibly dumb right now. After messing around with it for a while, I discovered that what I needed was a BIOS update for my motherboard, with one of the fixes being "Patch for system hang up when install Vista with 945/930/915 CPU", which confuses me since I had somehow had Vista...
But that's just it. I can't do a clean install because it freezes there too. That's what I was talking about when I said I tried booting into the setup. Otherwise I would've done that a long time ago.
Nope, it didn't work. Same issue.
