There is a good chance that if you simply did "drap n drop", that you did not copy all of the recovery files. There are system files that are not as simple to copy. I successfully copied my recover partition onto a USB and the did a system restore in this thread...
It may be easier to leave all of the permissions the same and use CMD line XCOPY.
It may be more efficient if you get an external drive and make a restore point on it through your control panel.

Before you switched to the Router/Modem, were your PC settings for DHCP enabled?
Is your "server" a "Desktop PC"?
If so, I would suggest changing your network card to a different slot.
If that doesn't work try that network card on a different computer to make sure that it works properly...
