I have the same issue, albeit with a custom PC, with the Hitachi Touro Desk Pro 3TB as well. It seems to me like a Win 8 driver issue, rather than a BIOS issue. I've only gotten the disk to show up once in Disk Management, but it wouldn't initialize properly. I didn't choose to initialize it...
